ADHA’s 2020 Awards Program is a way to honor and recognize our members dedication to the dental hygiene profession (in various aspects of the dental hygiene world: clinical, education, public health, research, etc.). Award for Excellence in Dental Hygiene

ADHA in conjunction with Johnson & Johnson, Consumer Inc. is pleased to announce the Award for Excellence in Dental Hygiene. This award honors dental hygienists who have evidence of active involvement in ADHA and its constituents, exhibit evidence of leadership in and the advancement of dental hygiene experience, provide evidence for the incorporation of any and/or all roles of the dental hygienist to document outstanding accomplishments that have a simple impact on the practice and future of the dental hygiene profession. Deadline: February 1, 2020

  • Eligibility
      Submissions will be rated on the following criteria:
      • * Hold at least 10 years membership in ADHA prior to application
      • * Demonstrate evidence of active involvement in ADHA and its constituents
      • * Exhibit evidence of leadership in and the advancement of dental hygiene experience
      • * Provide evidence of the incorporation of any and/or all of the roles to document "outstanding accomplishments that have a significant impact on the practice and future of the dental hygiene profession”
      • * Nomination from Peer
      • * Employees of ADHA, Board of Trustee members, family members of aforementioned, previous winners and employees of Johnson & Johnson are not eligible to apply for this award

Hu-Friedy/Irene Newman Outstanding Clinician Award

The Hu-Friedy/Irene Newman Outstanding Clinician Award honors a clinical dental hygienist who shows outstanding expertise in relating the interdependence of clinical practice and patient education for the improvement of patient compliance, while making a difference in the lives of their patients/clients. Deadline: February 1, 2020

  • Eligibility
      Submissions will be rated on the following criteria:
      • * Nominee must have over ten (10) years of clinical experience as a clinical dental hygienist
      • * Nominee must be a registered dental hygienist and a member of ADHA
      • * Nominee must be employed as a dental hygienist in a clinical setting
      • * The nominee must demonstrate quality of care within his/her practice
      • * Demonstrated outstanding clinical management, clinical knowledge, skills, professional competence, and commitment to patient compliance
      • * Dissemination of clinical knowledge and expertise through presentations, workshops, participation in research and/or programs that improved patient care
      • * Identified through peer recognition as dedicated, compassionate and highly effective clinician
      • * Identified as a role model for patients and other peers
      • * Employees of ADHA, Board of Trustee members, family members of aforementioned, previous winners and employees of Hu-Friedy are not eligible to apply for this award

Crest Oral-B/ADHA Esther Wilkins Future Leader Award

The Crest Oral-B/ADHA Esther Wilkins Future Leader honors dental hygienists who exhibit a strong commitment to the dental hygiene profession and have demonstrated leadership in the American Dental Hygienists' Association within five years of graduation from an accredited dental hygiene program. Deadline: February 1, 2020

      Submissions will be rated on the following criteria:
      • * Be a current Active member of ADHA and have continuous Active membership since graduation
      • * Have graduated from an accredited dental hygiene program within the last five years*
      • * Have been a Student member while enrolled in a dental hygiene program
      • * Peer Nomination – must be completed by an officer of the applicant’s constituent or component
      • * Employees of ADHA, Board of Trustee members, family members of aforementioned, previous winners and employees of Crest Oral-B are not eligible to apply for this award
      *For 2020, applications will be accepted from graduates in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, or 2019

Colgate/ADHA Community Outreach Award

The Colgate Community Outreach Award recognizes ADHA components and individuals submitting on behalf of components that have implemented significant community outreach programs, focusing on preventive health and oral health care. Deadline: February 1, 2020

  • Eligibility
      Eligibility is limited to:
      • * ADHA components
      • * ADHA member(s) submitting entries on behalf of an ADHA component
      • * ADHA constituent without a component organization
      Each project submission must have completed one full cycle (one year) of implementation. Submitters must also be current, active members of ADHA.
      • * Community projects are those that document a community need and have specific measurable objectives.
      • * Community projects must involve volunteer dental hygienists and may include other members of the oral health care team.
      • * Examples of community projects are: school programs | programs for special populations | media public information programs
      • * Any component or individual responsible for implementing a community project concerned with some aspect of preventive oral health may submit an entry.
      • * The number of entries each component may submit is not limited. An entry may be submitted by an individual or group of individuals on behalf of a component; however, duplicate entries submitted by more than one component or individual will not be considered.
      • * Any entry for a project newly implemented or on-going that has completed one year of implementation will be considered, if it is not a previous award-winning entry/project.

        Educator of the Year

        The Educator of the Year Award recognizes, honors and rewards a full or part-time dental hygiene faculty member who contributes to and provides high-quality education to dental hygiene students. Deadline: February 1, 2020

            • * Applicants must be an active member of ADHA and have at least five (5) years of ADHA membership
            • * Full or part-time (no less than 15 contact hours per week) faculty member at either an accredited dental hygiene program, in a dental hygiene degree-completion program, or in a Master of Science degree program in dental hygiene.
            • * Employees of ADHA, Board of Trustee members, family members of aforementioned, previous winners and employees of Crest Oral-B are not eligible to apply for this award

              The Colgate/ADHA Professional Membership Achievement Award is presented to an ADHA member selected for outstanding contributions to the Association made over a period not less than 20 years in areas of leadership, education, committee activity, continuing education, publication, and overall service to the field of dental hygiene. Deadline: February 1, 2020

This award honors a dental hygiene student in their final year of their program who has demonstrated commitment to ADHA, active involvement in their dental hygiene program, and exhibited excellence in leadership.                               The 100% Faculty Recognition Award recognizes dental hygiene programs where 100% of full and part-time dental hygiene faculty are members of ADHA. Up to one hundred (100) recipients will be selected. Deadline: March 1, 2020
