2023 Winners

The 2023 Outstanding Student Chapter Awards were proudly sponsored by Heartland Dental.

1st Place
Virginia Commonwealth University

Community outreach and fundraising were two of this chapter’s primary goals this year. Through bi-monthly events they were able to fundraise, advocate for membership, and network with their community. What sets this chapter apart is their involvement with the ADHA at the national, state, and local levels. Five chapter members fundraised their own way to ADHA22 in Louisville! Several students participated in VDHA’s legislative day lobbying for the profession, education and the scope of practice within the state. And the student chapter had 100% of graduating members attend the local component GRDHC’s Senior Meet and Greet.

2nd Place
Owen’s Community College

From state association participation and national level involvement this year members from this student chapter did it all. Their most notable achievement was oral hygiene education that students provided on a local level at over 45 different locations during the 2022-2023 school year. These presentations were given at local preschools, elementary schools, nursing homes and professional meetings. For their contributions, 92% of the class of 2023 received Service Scholar Awards, a special honor reserved for students who have completed at least 40 hours of community service related to their degree including community engagement initiatives, designated service activities, service learning courses, and community volunteering.

3rd Place
Old Dominion University

With 100% membership of their 2023 and 2024 graduating classes, this chapter made a huge difference in their local oral health community. Most notably, each semester student chapter members delivered oral hygiene instructions and screenings, fluoride and education to local schools and other underserved populations. This year they provided 139 screenings and education to 1,701 individuals, and 186 fluoride varnishes equating to nearly $51,000 in free services.
