Scholarship Listing

Scholarships are awarded based on how well the applicant demonstrates the goal or achievement described. Awarding of scholarships is strictly dependent upon availability of funds and adherence to eligibility criteria. Below is a listing of all ADHA Institute scholarships available for the Fall 2013 academic year. Unless otherwise noted, applicants must demonstrate a cumulative dental hygiene grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Scholarships of $1,000

Carol Bauhs Benson Scholarship - Established in memory of Carol Bauhs Benson.
Education level pursuing: Certificate/Associate
Regional limitation: open to students who reside in the following states: Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin 
Maximum number of annual awards: 1

Wilma E. Motley Scholarship - Established in memory of Wilma E. Motley.
Education level pursuing: Baccalaureate degree
Maximum number of annual awards: 1

Irene Woodall Graduate Scholarship –
Education level pursuing: Graduate degree in dental hygiene or a related field 
Maximum number of annual awards: 1

Dr. Esther Wilkins Scholarship - Established by Dr. Esther Wilkins.
Education level pursuing:  additional degree(s) neccessary for a career in dental hygiene education. Applicants must have completed an entry-level dental hygiene program. (Requires separate essay.)

Sigma Phi Alpha Certificate/Associate Scholarship - Awarded to an outstanding student pursuing a Certificate/Associate degree at a school with an active chapter of the Sigma Phi Alpha Dental Hygiene Honor Society that is a potential future Sigma Phi Alpha member.
Education level pursuing: Certificate/Associate degree
Maximum number of annual awards: 1

Sigma Phi Alpha Undergraduate Scholarship - Awarded to an outstanding student pursuing a Baccalaureate degree at a school with an active chapter of the Sigma Phi Alpha Dental Hygiene Honor Society that is a potential future Sigma Phi Alpha member or a current member in good standing.
Education level pursuing: Baccalaureate degree
Maximum number of annual awards: 1

Sigma Phi Alpha Graduate Scholarship - Awarded to an outstanding student pursuing a Graduate degree in dental hygiene or related field that is a potential future Sigma Phi Alpha member or a current member in good standing.
Education level pursuing: Graduate degree
Maximum number of annual awards: 1

Scholarship for Academic Excellence- Sponsored by Johnson & Johnson. Two scholarships are reserved for students pursuing a Baccalaureate degree and three scholarships are designated for students pursuing a Certificate or Associate degree.
Education level pursuing: (2) Baccalaureate degree (3) Certificate/Associate degree
Maximum number of annual awards: 5

Crest Oral-B Laboratories Dental Hygiene Scholarships- Sponsored by Procter & Gamble, these scholarships are awarded to applicants at the baccalaureate degree level who demonstrate an intent to encourage professional excellence and scholarship, promote quality research, and support dental hygiene through public and private education
Education level pursuing: Baccalaureate degree
Maximum number of annual awards: 2

Alice Hinchcliffe Williams, RDH, MS Graduate Scholarship - Funded by the Virginia Dental Hygienists' Association Foundation, this scholarship was created to honor a deceased colleague and benefactor, who enabled the VDHA to establish the VDHA Foundation to serve as the primary provider of lifelong learning for Virginia dental hygienists.
Regional limitation: Virginia resident
Education level pursuing: Graduate degree in Dental Hygiene or accredited, degree studies related to the professional roles of the dental hygienist.
Maximum number of annual awards: 1

Scholarships of $1,250

Colgate "Bright Smiles, Bright Futures" Minority Scholarships - Sponsored by Colgate Palmolive Company, these scholarships are awarded to members of minority groups currently underrepresented in dental hygiene programs at the certificate or Associate educational level. Example eligible applicants include: African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans, and males.
Education level pursuing: Certificate and Associate degree
Maximum number of annual awards: 2

Scholarships of $2,000

Wilma Motley Memorial California Merit Scholarship - Applicants must demonstrate leadership experience in addition to meeting the minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. These scholarships will be awarded solely on merit and do not have a financial needs requirement.
Regional Limitation: Applicants must be either a resident of California or attend a dental hygiene program in California.
Education level pursuing: Associate/Certificate in dental hygiene, Baccalaureate degree, degree completion in dental hygiene, Registered Dental Hygienist in Alternative Practice (RDHAP), Master's or Doctorate degree in dental hygiene or related field.  
Maximum number of annual awards: 3

Karla Girts Memorial Community Outreach Scholarship - Sponsored by Procter & Gamble in memory of Karla Girts, BSDH, RDH, past president of ADHA and former Chair of ADHA Institute for Oral Health. Applicants will display a commitment to improving oral health within the geriatric population in addition to a cumulative grade point average equal to or above 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. (Requires separate essay.)
Education level pursuing: Associate, Baccalaureate or degree completion program
Maximum number of annual awards: 2

Non-cash Scholarships (value amount $1,000)

Hu-Friedy/Esther Wilkins Instrument Scholarships -Sponsored by Hu-Friedy Manufacturing Co., Inc. The program awards recipients with the Hu-Friedy dental hygiene instruments of their choice, equivalent to a retail value of $1,000
Education level pursuing: Certificate/Associate or Baccalaureate degree level. 3.0 GPA Required
Maximum number of annual awards: 5
