Ask.Advise.Refer. Web site Re-Launched

With the great news that ADHA was awarded a second-year grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Smoking Cessation Leadership Center at the University of California, San Francisco, efforts have been underway to build on last year’s success of a nationwide initiative by dental hygienists to promote smoking cessation.

To expand ADHA’s activities related to the smoking cessation initiative (SCI), smoking cessation expert Carol Southard, RN, MSN was hired as the SCI project manager. Carol brings to her position at ADHA over 20 years of expertise in smoking cessation interventions. (You can reach her directly at carols@adha.net or 800-243-2342, ext. 220.)

Among the activities targeted for the second year of the grant was a complete update and redesign of the “Ask.Advise.Refer.” Web site (www.askadviserefer.org) featuring additional resources dental hygienists throughout the country can utilize. One of the key elements of the Web site is a tool-kit and an online tutorial for dental hygienists to use to promote smoking cessation activities. Among the many resources available to state SCI liaisons and dental hygiene practitioners through the ADHA initiative are smoking cessation fact sheets, online smoking cessation advice for practitioners, marketing and promotional materials such as posters and brochures, and the new national quitline resource list.
