NYU to Host Trigeminal Neuralgia and Chronic Facial Pain Conference New York University College of Dentistry will host the Trigeminal Neuralgia Association (TNA) Regional Patient Conference and Continuing Education course on April 30, 2005. Trigeminal neuralgia (TN), a disorder of the fifth cranial nerve, causes episodes of intense, stabbing, electric shock-like pain in the areas of the face where the nerve is distributed. TN is not fatal but is considered to be one of the most painful afflictions known, says the TNA. The continuing education session, which is open to dental hygienists, dentists, and dental assistants, will provide participants with an understanding of TN and chronic facial pain disorders. The course will discuss dental evaluation, diagnosis and management of patients, when to make referrals to neurologists or neurosurgeons, and different surgical treatments for TN and chronic facial pain. Conference topics include the History of TN, Spectrum of Neuropathic Face Pain, Dentistry and TN, Medical Management, Case Studies, and more. Patients, family members, and supporters are encouraged to attend the conference. Register online at www.tna-support.org/.
The registration fee for patients may be reduced or waived. For further
information, or to request a conference brochure, call 800/923-3608. The
conference will be held on the first floor of Saklad Auditorium, NYU College
of Dentistry, 345 E. 24th St., New York City.
