| ADHA Announces Recipient of
2007 Colgate Community Outreach Award
Chicago—July 12, 2007—The
American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) has named the
South Florida Dental Hygiene Association (SFDHA) as a recipient
of the 2007 Colgate Community Outreach Award. The SFDHA was honored
during the opening ceremonies at ADHA’s 84th annual session
in New Orleans, La., on June 22nd.
ADHA, in conjunction with Colgate, presented
this award in recognition of the volunteer efforts of ADHA component
associations and individual members who have conducted significant
outreach programs that focus on preventive oral health care. The
winning component associations demonstrated collaboration with appropriate
non-dental and dental partners, innovation and creativity in application
of proven strategies, and a congruence of program strategies with
established objectives.
The SFDHA was chosen for its commitment to
the “His House Children’s Home” project. According
to their web site “His House Children’s Home is a private,
non-profit, faith-based social services agency, whose mission is
to fulfill God’s directive to defend the cause of the weak
and the fatherless, by providing excellent residential, case management,
foster care, adoption and counseling services to children, transitioning
youth in crisis and support of their families.”
A number of SFDHA members combined their
volunteer efforts and community service hours to provide basic dental
hygiene care. The members of recognition are Lillian Mancebo, MS,
BS, RDH, Karen Mattox, MS, BS, RDH, Rebecca Smith, MS, BS, RDH,
Kate Perez, RDH, Betty Meador, BS, RDH, Martha Torres, RDH, and
Nanette Hornberger, BS, RDH.
ADHA is the largest national organization
representing the professional interests of more than 120,000 dental
hygienists across the country. Dental hygienists are preventive
