| 2004 Colgate/ADHA Award Presented
to Upper Hudson Dental Hygienists’ Association
Chicago—August 12, 2004—The
American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA) and Colgate Oral
Pharmaceuticals Inc., a subsidiary of the Colgate Palmolive Company,
have named the Upper Hudson Dental Hygienists’ Association,
a component of the New York Dental Hygienists’ Association,
a winner of the Colgate/ADHA Community Outreach Award.
The award is presented to ADHA component
organizations that have implemented significant community outreach
programs focusing on preventive oral health care.
Receiving the award on behalf of the component
was Lynda Glenn, RDH. The program receiving the award was instituted
to prevent oral disease in children starting from birth.
The program is designed to inform new parents
of the importance of oral health, its ties to general health, to
promote proper oral health care, and to encourage its recognition
as an acceptable and important factor in life long overall health
goals. The program was initiated by distributing “Infant Oral
Health Care Kits” to new parents through the hospitals’
Snuggery Unit.
The recipients of the award were honored
at ADHA’s annual session in Dallas on June 23. The winners
each received a $2,000 donation for their component, a commemorative
award and an expense-free trip to Dallas for the ceremony.
ADHA is the largest national organization
representing the professional interests of the more than 120,000
