Scholars Program Recipient Announced-Deborah E. Fleming
Chicago-August 10, 2004 – The
American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA) has named Deborah
E. Fleming RDH, MS, the recipient of the 2004 Linda DeVore Leadership
Scholars Program award.
The award, sponsored by Pfizer Inc, is designed
to facilitate professional growth of entry-level junior faculty.
The recipient receives a cumulative two-and-one-half-month visit
to the University of Maryland, Pfizer Inc, N.Y., and ADHA headquarters.
The recipient is also granted $8,500 to cover travel and living
expenses during the course of the visits.
Fleming earned her associate degree from
Montgomery Country College in Blue Bell, Penn., and both her bachelor’s
and master’s degrees from the University of North Carolina,
Chapel Hill. While finishing her master’s degree program she
also completed a teaching externship at what is now the Oregon Health
and Science University School of Dentistry in Portland. She has
worked in both general and periodontal practices, taught at the
University of Maryland, Baltimore, in the department of dental hygiene,
and is now a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Dental
Ecology at University of North Carolina.
ADHA is the largest national organization
representing the professional interests of the more than 120,000
dental hygienists across the country. Dental hygienists are preventive
oral health professionals, licensed in dental hygiene, who provide
educational, clinical and therapeutic services that support the
