to Oregon Dental Hygienists’ Association-Marion-Polk-Yamhill
Chicago—August 5, 2004—The
American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA) and Colgate Oral
Pharmaceuticals Inc., a subsidiary of the Colgate Palmolive Company,
have named the Marion-Polk-Yamhill component of the Oregon Dental
Hygienists’ Association a winner of the Colgate/ADHA Community
Outreach Award.
The award is presented to ADHA component
organizations that have implemented significant community outreach
programs focusing on preventive oral health care.
Receiving the award on behalf of the component
was Michelle Aldrich, RDH, BSDH, LAP. She received her bachelor
of science degree in 1992 from the Oregon Health Science University
School of Dentistry. Aldrich’s Amity Elementary School Dental
Clinic Day is the program for which the component received the award.
The program is a yearly event in which second
graders who have, or who are at risk for dental disease, are screened
and treated. The main objective of the program is to alleviate the
child’s dental pain, as well as to provide sealants to eliminate
further disease.
The recipients of the award were honored
at ADHA’s annual session in Dallas on June 23. The winners
each received a $2,000 donation for their component, a commemorative
award and an expense-free trip to Dallas for the ceremony.
ADHA is the largest national organization
representing the professional interests of the more than 120,000
dental hygienists across the country. Dental hygienists are preventive
