Pamela J. Sandy Honored with 2003 ADHA Student
Advisor Award
Chicago-June 30, 2003 - The American
Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA) has named Pamela J. Sandy
of Ocoee, Fla., as the recipient of the 2003 ADHA Student Advisor
Award.
Sandy was nominated by students at Valencia
Community College, in Orlando, Fla., where she is a professor of
dental hygiene. The award honors student advisors who instill a
sense of pride and commitment to the dental hygiene profession in
their students.
Sandy has worked in a number of different
practice settings, including clinics, as an instructor at various
colleges, as a counselor at the Florida Department of Health, and
as the coordinator for the Allied Health Grant through the U.S.
Public Health Service, Bureau of Health Professions. She has been
a registered dental hygienist since 1976.
In addition, Sandy has served as a delegate
for the Illinois Dental Hygienists' Association and the Florida
Dental Hygienists' Association. She has served on various committees
and was the president of the Peoria component of the Illinois Dental
Hygienists' Association.
She was honored during the opening ceremonies
at ADHA's 80th annual session in New York, N.Y., on June 28.
ADHA is the largest national organization
representing the professional interests of the more than 120,000
dental hygienists across the country. Dental hygienists are preventive
oral health professionals, licensed in dental hygiene, who provide
educational, clinical and therapeutic services that support total
