Chicago-June 30, 2003 - The American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA) has named Tammie J. Vargo, RDH, BS, of Choctaw, Okla., the recipient of the 2003 ADHA Future Leader Award.

The award honors dental hygienists who exhibit a strong commitment to the dental hygiene profession and demonstrate leadership in ADHA within five years of graduation from an accredited dental hygiene program.

Vargo, an active member of ADHA since 2000, was recognized for her creative work in fundraising efforts, membership growth and ongoing community leadership at the Oklahoma Dental Hygienists' Association.

She has served as vice-president and membership chair for the board of trustees of the Oklahoma Dental Hygienists' Association, and she has worked in clinics, as well as at the University of Oklahoma as a clinical instructor.

Vargo was honored during the opening ceremonies at ADHA's 80th annual session in New York, N.Y., on June 28.

ADHA is the largest national organization representing the professional interests of the more than 120,000 dental hygienists across the country.
