Tammie J. Vargo Receives 2003 ADHA Future
Leader Award
Chicago-June 30, 2003 - The American
Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA) has named Tammie J. Vargo,
RDH, BS, of Choctaw, Okla., the recipient of the 2003 ADHA Future
Leader Award.
The award honors dental hygienists who exhibit
a strong commitment to the dental hygiene profession and demonstrate
leadership in ADHA within five years of graduation from an accredited
dental hygiene program.
Vargo, an active member of ADHA since 2000,
was recognized for her creative work in fundraising efforts, membership
growth and ongoing community leadership at the Oklahoma Dental Hygienists'
Association.
She has served as vice-president and membership
chair for the board of trustees of the Oklahoma Dental Hygienists'
Association, and she has worked in clinics, as well as at the University
of Oklahoma as a clinical instructor.
Vargo was honored during the opening ceremonies
at ADHA's 80th annual session in New York, N.Y., on June 28.
ADHA is the largest national organization
representing the professional interests of the more than 120,000
dental hygienists across the country. Dental hygienists are preventive
oral health professionals, licensed in dental hygiene, who provide
educational, clinical and therapeutic services that support the
total health through the promotion of optimal oral health. For more
