ADHA Announces Recipient of 2003 Alfred C.
Fones Award
Chicago-June 30, 2003-The American
Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA) has named Marge Reveal, RDH,
BS, MS, MBA, of Flagstaff, Ariz., as the recipient of the 2003 ADHA
Alfred C. Fones Award.
The award, sponsored by Oral-B Laboratories,
recognizes a current ADHA member who has contributed significantly
to the profession of dental hygiene. Alfred C. Fones is credited
with developing the term "dental hygiene" and pioneering
the dental hygiene movement. He founded the first dental hygiene
school in his office in the early 1900s.
Reveal, an active member of ADHA since 1974,
is currently an instructor at Northern Arizona University. She has
held other faculty positions at Oregon Health Sciences University
and Comosun College in Victoria, British Columbia.
She served as ADHA president from 1987 to
1988, and was a U.S. representative to the International Federation
of Dental Hygienists from 1989 to 1995.
Reveal was honored during the opening ceremonies
at ADHA's 80th annual session in New York, N.Y., on June 28. She
received $1,000 and a commemorative award, as well as round-trip
transportation and lodging for the session.
ADHA is the largest national organization
representing the professional interests of the more than 120,000
dental hygienists across the country. Dental hygienists are preventive
oral health professionals, licensed in dental hygiene, who provide
educational, clinical and therapeutic services that support total
