ADHA Announces Recipient of 2009 Alfred C. Fones Award

Chicago, July 6, 2009-The American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) has named Beverly P. Whitford, RDH, BS, of Old Mystic, Conn., as the recipient of the Alfred C. Fones Award. She was honored during the Saturday Plenary Session and ADHA Award Presentations at ADHA’s 86th Annual Session in Washington, D.C., on June 20.

This award recognizes a current ADHA member who has contributed significantly to the profession of dental hygiene. The nominees had 25 years of cumulative ADHA membership, dental hygiene association leadership experience, other dental hygiene awards, participation both in the community and with other allied health professions, authorship and political involvement.

Whitford has been a long standing officer, committee member and ADHA past president over the past 40 years. She received her certificate in dental hygiene from Forsyth School for Dental Hygienists in Boston and earned her baccalaureate degree in dental hygiene and business management certificate at the University of Bridgeport in 1982. Whitford has won numerous awards and participated in various allied health organizations.

ADHA is the largest national organization representing the professional interests of more than 150,000 dental hygienists across the country. Dental hygienists are preventive oral health professionals, licensed in dental hygiene, who provide educational, clinical and therapeutic services that support total health through the promotion of optimal oral health.
