Bottle Mouth Caries Prevention, A Media Approach |
Location: |
State of Hawaii |
Project Description: |
Bottle Mouth Caries is the highest level in the United States among the Hawaiian population. No effort has been made to educate the population through popular media programs such as television and radio. The development of "local style" announcements should reach a large segment of those that are in the statistical group identified. The announcements will be produced in a manner that will allow them to be utilized throughout this year and many years to come. It is the belief of this researcher and educator that the impact of this program will have far-reaching impact on reducing the incidence of bottle mouth caries in Hawaii. |

School-based Sealant Program |
Location: |
Seven schools in Dubuque County |
Project Description: |
Seven schools in Dubuque County have been served for the past two years by the School-based Dental Sealant Program. The schools included have the highest percentage of free and reduced lunch participants. As statistics show, these are also the children least likely to access dental services in private dental offices, and only then when in pain. This is a free, preventive program -- sealants PREVENT cavities in back teeth. Additionally, any child examined and found to have decay is assisted in getting dental care, which historically is forty-five percent of the children served. |
