Help to make this another successful year for the Institute’s
premier fundraising event!
The 2009 Institute Silent Auction is quickly approaching, and we need your help! Last year through the annual auction, over $12,000 was raised for dental hygiene education, research and community service. This year, we hope to exceed that figure!
New for 2009, ADHA’s President’s Reception and the IOH Extravaganza will be combined to make one large benefit celebration. On Saturday, June 20, 2009, the Institute will host its 11th Annual Silent Auction in Washington, D.C. during the ADHA Institute for Oral Health Benefit/President’s Reception. During the premier fundraising event for the foundation, time-share vacations, works of art, jewelry, food and wine baskets, regional and collectible gifts and handmade crafts will be auctioned.
We ask that you solicit donations from your constituent and component organizations, as well as dedicated dental hygienists throughout your state. It is recommended that all auction items retail over $100. Donors will receive a tax-deductible credit for their gift. Auction items will be displayed for preview on the Exhibit Show Floor and in the Silent Auction program with the donor and/or solicitors’ names.
If you, or a donor, have any questions regarding auction solicitations or the auction process, please feel free to contact Star Abernathy at (312) 440-8944 or e-mail at institute@adha.net. Your help in this matter is important, as it is only through your generosity that auction items are collected.

Interact with 55,000 colleagues
Access magazine goes out to 55,000 dental hygiene professionals in the United States. With every information-packed edition, Access is increasingly becoming the dental hygiene publication that you read from cover to cover.
Access is interested in speaking with dental hygienists who work in public health about the unique situations and challenges they face obtaining supplies. If you have a story to share, please email JeanM@adha.net and title your message Public Health.
Access’ "Risk Management" column has helped explain some of the issues related to this potentially sensitive area of dental hygiene practice. If you have questions that have not yet been answered, please send them to JeanM@adha.net, and they will be forwarded to the authors to address in an upcoming column. Please title your email message Risk Management Inquiries. As a reminder, previous columns appeared inNovember 2006; February, March and December 2007; May-June and November 2008; and February 2009.
Have an interesting hobby? Volunteer with a great organization? Access wants to know what dental hygienists are doing out of the office to balance their lives, keep themselves healthy, stay financially secure and enhance their lifestyles. Please email your insights and contact information to JeanM@adha.net and title the email Accessing Life, and someone from the Access team may get in touch with you to schedule an interview. We look forward to your contributions! Please note: If you are featured in “Accessing Life,” we will need a print-quality photo that shows you participating in your featured activity.
