Serving as a page is a great way to participate in the ADHA House of Delegates, learn more about parliamentary procedure and get your exercise. ADHA needs pages at this year’s annual session in Washington, D.C. for the following times:

Shift 1:         Sunday, June 21, 9-11:30 a.m. – First HOD

Shift 2:         Monday, June 22, 7- 11:00 a.m. – Mega Issues Discussion on Workforce Models

Shift 3:         Monday, June 22, 2-5:00 p.m. – Second HOD

Shift 4:         Tuesday, June 23, 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. – Third HOD

American Dental Hygienists' Association -  Sigma Phi Alpha Journalism Award Competition
Generously sponsored by Johnson & Johnson
To encourage dental hygiene research, ADHA, Sigma Phi Alpha and Johnson & Johnson will present an award to the outstanding manuscript submitted by a baccalaureate-, master- or doctoral-level degree completion candidate. The winning manuscript will be published in the Journal of Dental Hygiene (JDH).  Runner-up articles will have abstracts also published in JDH and Access. In addition, the author of the winning manuscript will receive a $1,000 award. There is no travel or registration for ADHA CLL/Annual Session offered as part of this award.

 

Judges needed for the Student Table Clinic and Research Poster Sessions at the 2009 ADHA CLL at Annual Session
Are you looking for a good opportunity to volunteer your services? Apply to be a table clinic or research poster judge at the 2009 ADHA CLL at Annual Session in Washington, D.C.

Thursday, June 18, 2009 – 7:30 to 11:00 a.m.
Friday, June 19, 2009 – 7:30 to 10:00 a.m.

This annual event showcases independent research presented by undergraduate and graduate dental hygiene students and is open to hygienists, fellow students and the general public. ADHA member hygienists serving as judges will evaluate the quality of presentations in both written and oral forms. You can choose either morning session. You will be assigned table clinics or research posters that match your area of clinical expertise. The student presenters will be expected to be able to explain their project and answer any questions regarding their findings.

All judges are invited to stay for the awards luncheon or reception.
Please consider volunteering your time as an ADHA Table Clinic/Poster Session judge. It's a great way to support ADHA and its students.

The 2009 NIH Summer Institute
The 2009 NIH Summer Institute on Community-Based Participatory Research Targeting the Medically Underserved will convene August 2-7, 2009 in New Orleans, LA. The course will address essential conceptual, methodological and practical issues inherent in planning and conducting research on health promotion, disease prevention and health disparities that is conducted in partnership between communities and researchers, and targets medically underserved areas (MUAs) and medically underserved populations (MUPs) as defined by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

The institute is intended for investigators who wish to develop NIH grant applications for research targeting the medically underserved, especially funding announcements PA-08-074, PAR-08-075 and PAR-08-076. Faculty will include established investigators from social work and other fields who will provide instruction based on their expertise and own successful projects. The goal is for each participant to develop an NIH R21 or R01 under the listed FOAs.
