Your Students Can Help Give Every Child a Healthy Smile!
In July 2008, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) and the National Children’s Oral Health Foundation (NCOHF) embarked on a partnership that formed the ADHA Toothfairy Campaign. Through this partnership, the ADHA Institute for Oral Health is providing a unique opportunity for accredited dental hygiene programs to become members of NCOHF’s Affiliate Network, a growing network of not-for-profit oral healthcare facilities dedicated to serving the country’s economically disadvantaged children. To date, the NCOHF Affiliate Network includes university dental schools, comprehensive health centers, stand-alone dental clinics, mobile/portable programs, hospital dental clinics, school-based programs, and programs that provide education, preventative and referral resources to a dental home.

Through the ADHA Institute for Oral Health, five dental hygiene programs will be provided the opportunity to actively participate in addressing pediatric dental disease through the solutions of preventive therapy and an educational approach. As members of the network, these dental hygiene programs will receive:

  • Toothfairy Island® - turn-key preventive oral health educational curriculum (please visit www.toothfairyisland.com)
  • Donated dental equipment and supplies
  • Financial grants
  • The Guide, a policies and procedures manual of best practices to share with your preceptor sites
  • Fundraising templates and initiatives - Funds raised in a specific community will go directly to an NCOHF Affiliate in that community for direct services to children.  NCOHF will be helping Affiliates launch Toothfairy Campaigns in their respective areas
  • And many others…

All applications should be received or postmarked no later than December 31, 2008 in order to be considered.  For additional questions or concerns regarding the application process, please contact Star Abernathy, Administrator, by phone or email at 312/440-8944 or stara@adha.net.  For questions directly related to the NCOHF or the Affiliate Network, please contact Sandra Boucher-Bessent at 704/350-1600 or sboucher@ncohf.org.

Earn Your Wings
On November 14th, a president-elect or leader from nearly every state attending the American Dental Hygienists’ Association’s (ADHA) Unleashing Your Potential leadership training helped to build the ADHA Toothfairy Campaign! In a matter of minutes, over $1,500 was raised! ADHA, the Class of 2009 President-Elects and the National Children’s Oral Health Foundation (NCOHF) invite all dental hygienists to “earn your wings” by donating to this collaborative effort to raise awareness and funds to support direct delivery of education, preventive treatment and comprehensive oral health services to our nation’s most at-risk children. We can all be proud of our dental hygiene community, which continues to be a leader in the effort to develop solutions to this national health crisis. Already, dental hygienists’ strong show of support to the Toothfairy Campaign is helping thousands of children.

For every $25 you donate to the Toothfairy Campaign, your name will be entered into a drawing to win a pair of Orascoptic loupes (valued at $1,425 each). Chances of winning are multiplied because drawings will be held in each ADHA District that reaches a minimum of $2,000 in contributions before the end of 2008. One hundred percent of your desperately needed contribution will be used to support pediatric oral health. With $50 or more, you will receive your wings: a Toothfairy pin.

To make a donation, visit: http://www.ncohf.org/RDHToothfairy.php
or call 1-800-559-9838 (8:30-5:30 Monday-Friday Eastern Time).

Join your colleagues as we build the Dental Hygienist fund of the Toothfairy Campaign! And thank you for helping children eat, sleep, learn, thrive and have something to smile about this Thanksgiving!
