The candidate chosen for this position will be a self-motivated, experienced professional who will be able to represent the association’s vision for the future and create opportunities with our corporate partners to achieve mutually beneficial strategic partnerships.  Developing partnerships with non-dental related organizations is also key as this individual will be held responsible for securing annual corporate funding of $1 million.

Ability to work in a team environment is essential. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years progressive experience in fundraising, development or sales, preferably in a not-for-profit arena required. Experience in the dental industry is a plus.  Strong oral and written communication skills and computer literacy required.

Salary will be commensurate with background and experience.  Interested parties should send resume and salary requirements in confidence to Human Resources, 444 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 3400, Chicago, IL 60611 or jobs@adha.net.  Please outline your qualifications and salary requirements for this position in a comprehensive cover letter.

Call for 2009 National Oral Health Conference Program Session Submissions
Submit by October 3, 2008
The Planning Committee for the 2009 National Oral Health Conference (NOHC) invites plenary and concurrent session proposals addressing scientific research, program evaluation, community-based interventions and partnerships related to dental public health.

Five years have passed since the release of A National Call to Action to Promote Oral Health: A Public-Private Partnership Under the Leadership of The Office of the Surgeon General, which was originally released at the 2003 National Oral Health Conference.  The opening day of the 2009 NOHC will focus on the current status of the response to this Call to Action.  Submissions demonstrating programs or responses around one of the five action steps in the Call to Action are requested.

These actions are:

  • Change Perceptions of Oral Health
  • Overcome Barriers by Replicating Effective Programs and Proven Efforts
  • Build the Science Base and Accelerate Science Transfer
  • Increase Oral Health Workforce Diversity, Capacity, and Flexibility
  • Increase Collaborations

The full text of the National Call to Action to Promote Oral Health is available at: http://www.surgeongeneral.gov/topics/oralhealth/.

The Committee is also requesting proposals reflecting the ongoing theme of the NOHC, “Pursuit of Excellence in Dental Public Health.”

The program session abstract should be submitted online at http://www.nationaloralhealthconference.com.  Please indicate your preference for a plenary or concurrent session.  Although the Planning Committee will try to honor your preference, it reserves the right to make final decisions on program format.  Please submit your proposal no later than October 3, 2008.  Notification of selection will be made in October 2008.  Any questions may be directed to Pam Tolson at natoff@aaphd.org.

Earn Your Wings
In celebration of National Dental Hygiene Month in October, on behalf of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) and the National Children’s Oral Health Foundation (NCOHF), we invite all dental hygienists to “earn your wings” by participating in the ADHA Toothfairy Campaign.

Join your colleagues across America and become a Toothfairy. For each tax deductible, minimum contribution of $25, your name will be entered to win a pair of Sybron Orascoptic Loupes ($50 = 2 entries, $75 = 3 entries). With $50 or more, you will receive a Toothfairy pin.

Add your name to the growing list of Toothfairies. Raffle winners and Toothfairies will be announced in the November ADHA Update and issues of dental hygiene journals, showcasing all who are making a difference on the frontline of defense – where care begins.

Please forward this email to 10 of your closest colleagues. Let’s increase participation by the end of October and show the world our power in numbers.
