Make your professional
publication interactive
Every dental hygienist has a unique viewpoint,
a technique to share, a story to tell. Access magazine is committed
to keeping ADHA's brand promise to provide an association built around
YOU. If you'd like us to include your insights, let us know.
As a preventive oral health care professional,
you have a unique insight into your patients' oral health needs. In addition
to the services you provide in the practice setting, the patient education
and product recommendations you send patients home with form the foundation
for their oral health attitudes and behaviors. How do you help your patients
attain and maintain periodontal health between appointments? What products
do you match to different periodontal case types? Let us know in an email
message to JeanM@ADHA.net. Put Home
Periodontal Products in the subject line, and Access
may contact you for an interview. (Interviews usually take less than 15
minutes and can be conducted by phone or email.)
Access’ “Profile” column
is a question & answer about your professional life, your goals and
influences, and your attitudes about the changing world of dental hygiene.
Any ADHA member not currently serving on the board of trustees is welcome
to participate. Email JeanM@adha.net,
and title your email message Profile Column [your last name].
If you are selected, you will receive a list of questions to answer and
we will ask for a print-quality headshot to accompany the column. Answers
will be edited for space.
NIOSH
Seeks Public Comment
Your ADHA is working in partnership with the National Institute for Occupational
Safety and Health (NIOSH) and other health care organizations to develop
and conduct a survey addressing the safety and health of healthcare workers.
The survey will address all aspects of health care, including oral health
care, and will include management, practitioners of all types and support
staff from all levels. They are seeking public comment on the content
of the proposed national survey of healthcare workers’ safety and
health and a proposed national survey of employer safety and health practices.
Please visit http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/review/public/135/
and provide feedback to NIOSH on these important surveys. The comment
period will be open thru June 30, 2008.
Funding
Opportunity
The Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations is responsible for
conducting the National Board Dental and Dental Hygiene Examination programs.
The purpose of these examination programs is to assist state boards in
determining the qualifications of dentists and dental hygienists who seek
licensure to practice. One of the goals of the Joint Commission is to
encourage the improvement of cognitive dental assessment methods. Because
of this, the Joint Commission provides funds in support of a limited number
of research and development projects each year, which are aimed at studying
innovations in testing methods. The fund is entitled Innovative
Dental Assessment Research and Development Grants Program (IDEA Grants
Program). Submission of proposals for the IDEA Grant Program will
begin July 1, 2008 for the 2008-2009 funding cycle.
Research News
The NIH has issued a
Request for Information and is inviting input and ideas from the scientific
community, health professionals, patient advocates and the general public
about major cross-cutting challenges and possible solutions. Collecting
these ideas is an initial step in the process of identifying a new cohort
of Common Fund/Roadmap programs for Fiscal Year 2011. This RFI provides
an opportunity for respondents to submit their own ideas. The NIH expects
to spend $30-$50 million per year from within the currently projected
Roadmap budget for new 5-year initiatives.
The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial
Research (NIDCR) is seeking input as they develop a strategic plan to
guide research efforts over the next five years (2009-2013). Please click
here and take a few moments to answer a set of six questions. Responses
should be received by June 20, 2008.
