Annual Conference

Road to the 94th Annual Conference

Patti DiGangi

There is still time to register for the 94th Annual Conference, which takes place June 14-19 at the Prime Osborn Center in Jacksonville, FL. As we gear up for an exciting event, we are thrilled to introduce this week’s featured speaker, Patti DiGangi, RDH, BS.

Patti DiGangi, the author of the 2016 book A Gingivitis Code Finally!, has established new coding to help accurately track and record gingivitis treatment. DiGangi answered questions regarding the new gingival coding and what’s coming next.

Q: Why is coding so important and why did you choose this path?
A: Dentistry is no longer just about fixing teeth; dentistry is oral medicine. We can have a world with no oral cancer. We can cure, not just manage, periodontal disease. And we can meet the 2020 goal of the World Federation of Dentistry for a caries-free world. There are big goals that big data can help us reach. I am not in love with codes, yet I know the power of metrics. Codes provide metrics. I help dental professionals embrace the opportunities and understand the metrics that accurate insurance coding provides. This increases practice profitability while improving the oral-systemic health of the patients we serve.

Q: What’s next in coding and how will it affect the field?
A: ADHA now has an ad hoc CDT Working Group whose goal is to have a full voting seat at both the Code Maintenance Committee (CMC) and Systematized Nomenclature for Dentistry Committee (SNODENT). Hygienists’ voices must be heard as the vital players we are. The new code I will be presenting on at the Conference is a great start but it’s only the beginning.

Q: What do you hope attendees will take away from your session?
A: Excitement, motivation and specific knowledge on how to implement the new gingival inflammation code! There are few ideas or technologies with the power to make a radical change in dentistry in one swoop. This new code is a game changer. Coding directly affects the future. Looking at the code changes through this telescope can assist in understanding the focused need for routine and accurate documentation of the patient risk assessment and diagnosis process.

Patti DiGangi is well known for her plentiful online CE programs and webinars. Her highly anticipated session will be Thursday, June 15 from 11:45am – 1:15pm. We hope to see you there – register now!
