Fluoride Therapy

Root caries is a growing concern among the aging population. Fluoride therapy (fluoride treatments, fluoride varnish), either in-office applications or take-home treatments, and fluoride supplements may be beneficial for older, at risk patients. These products typically contain acidulated phosphate fluoride, neutral sodium fluoride or stannous fluoride, and are available as gels, pastes, rinses or foaming solutions. For high-risk patients, a combination of in-office and at-home treatments can be considered and should be monitored for patient disease prevention and patient comfort.
